Day 1 Lahad Datu / Tabin Wildlife Reserve (Lunch /Dinner)
Transfer from Lahad Datu to Tabin Wildlife Reserve on gravel road.
Journey to this largest wildlife reserve in Malaysia takes about 1 hour.
Tabin was declared a wildlife reserve because of the large numbers of
animal species inhabiting its forest, including several which are highly
endangered. With a protected forest area of 120,500 hectres, Tabin plays
an important role as a dedicated ground for the breeding of endangered
wildlife and protected mammals in Sabah. It is perhaps most notable as
the last major stronghold of the Sumatra Rhinoceros on Borneo. In the
core area visitors have the opportunity to walk through primary dipterocarp
rainforest, and also easily spot wildlife such as orang utans and pygmy
elephants. In the afternoon, visit the Lipad mud volcano which serves
as a mineral salt lick for wildlife. After trekking through the jungle
for twenty minutes, arrive at the elevated bare area of the mud volcano
known to be frequented by deers, bearded pigs, elephants and birds. Try
to identify the multitude of animal footprints here. Those adventurous
can experiment the effect of the volcanic mud said to be responsible for
fine complexion. Walk up the observation tower and admire the contrasting
landscape of the bare mud volcano area and its surrounding thick forest
where birds are commonly sighted. After dinner, enjoy a slide presentation
on Tabin's uniqueness, followed by a trip to look out for nocturnal wildlife
and birds. Overnight at Tabin.
Day 2 Tabin Wildlife Reserve / Lahad Datu / Danum Valley (Breakfast
/ Dinner)
You may opt to join the early morning bird walk (not included in package)
as Tabin has a rich collection of about 300 bird species. After breakfast,
transfer to Danum Valley Conservation Area which covers an area of 440
sq km is an untouched primary forest with a great diversity of flora and
fauna. Exotic orchids, lianas, ferns, shrubs and many other kinds of plant
contribute to an exceptionally high floral diversity This mystic tropical
forest is also rich in wildlife, and contains the full range of Sabah's
lowland fauna, including such rare and endangered species as the Sumatran
rhinoceros, pygmy elephants, clouded leopards, orang utans and proboscis
monkeys. This preserved rainforest with its pristine environment is home
to myriads of birds; over 320 species have been recorded and the list
is still growing. Upon arrived at Borneo Rainforest Lodge. In the afternoon,
an introduction to the forest through Nature Trail and proceed to the
Canopy Walkway. In the evening, if weather permits, experience a Night
Drive in an open-air truck in search of nocturnal animals. Overnight at
Borneo Rainforest Lodge.
Day 3 Danum Valley (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
Guided jungle activities - trek to the Kadazandusun burial site - Coffin
Cliff then proceed with trekking to the View Point for a bird's eye view
of the Danum Valley and the Borneo lowland rainforest. Descend to the
Jacuzzi Pool for a refreshing dip. Optional : Water tubing for an hour
in the Danum River or Trekking along the Segama River. In the evening,
if weather permits, enjoy a Night Walk around the lodge in search of nocturnal
animals. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.
Day 4 Danum Valley / Lahad Datu / Onward (Breakfast / Lunch)
Guided morning walk at the Segama Trail / Hornbill Trail. After lunch
transfer to Lahad Datu airport.
Package Includes: all transfers based on
a join-in basis, accommodation and meals as stated, guided tours and activities,
personal insurance, conservation fee.
Package Excludes: airfares, taxes and beverages.
